Screen tearing when playing flash-videos in unity

In Ubuntu 13.04, as already under 12.10 and 12.04, there is a notable screen tearing problem, when playing videos in fullscreen, using Intel HD 3000 graphics and Unity-Shell.

To resolve this issue, you’ll need CompizConfigSettingsManager:

sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager

After that, you have to add your videoplayer to the ¬†“Unredirect-Match”-List under “Composite”.

Flash-videos playing inside chrome:

&(!class=Google-chrome)

VLC (should already be in this list):

&(!class=vlc)

You can add the reqired entry with an graphical tool also. You’ll find this behind the ‘+’ button beside the input field (creenshot language is german, but layout should be the same).

UnRedirect-Match_Editor

The correct settings are:

Typ: Fensterklasse

Beziehung: Oder

Umkehren: Ja

By clicking on “Ausw√§hlen (propably select)”, you’ll start a selection tool. A click on the playback window will enter all needed settings.
